Our Beliefs
We believe the scriptures, both Old and New Testament are the inspired word of God, without error in the original writings, the complete revelation of His will for the salvation of mankind, and the final authority for all Christian life and faith.
We believe that there is one true and living God who exists eternally in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit and these being one God, are equal in deity, power and glory. We believe that God not only created the world but also now upholds, sustains, governs and providentially directs all that exists.
We believe that Adam, as the representative man, was made in the image of God, to live in perfect relationship with God and to establish the rule of the kingdom of God on earth. We also believe that Adam chose to wilfully reject the Lordship and glory of God, through temptation by God’s enemy, Satan. This was sin, and resulted in the universal sinfulness and guilt of humankind since the fall, rendering humankind subject to God’s wrath and condemnation.
We believe that God did not abandon His creation to death and destruction. He so loved the world that he sent Jesus Christ His one and only Son, conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary, to redeem humankind from the guilt, penalty and power of sin. Fully God and fully man in one person, the Lord Jesus Christ lived a sinless life and offered himself as a substitutionary sacrifice for us, as sinners. By the blood of his cross he satisfied the wrath of God, obtaining for us an eternal redemption, the forgiveness of sins, spiritual adoption as sons and daughters, life everlasting and defeated the powers of darkness. He was raised bodily on the third day and ascended to the right hand of the Father, there to make intercession for the saints.
We believe that the gospel is the good news of what God has accomplished for sinners, through the life, death and resurrection of his Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. We believe we are saved solely by the grace of God through faith in the person and work of Jesus Christ who died for our sins.
We believe in the necessity of the work of the Holy Spirit to make the death of Christ effective to the individual sinner, grant them repentance toward God and faith in Jesus Christ as the sole means of justification. The indwelling Spirit continues to work in every believer sanctifying, illuminating, leading and graciously empowering them for Godly living and service. Subsequent to conversion the Spirit desires to fill, empower and anoint believers for ministry and witness.
We believe that the ministry of the Spirit in signs and wonders continues today as it did in the early Church. We believe that the biblical gifts of the Spirit are central to spiritual growth and effective ministry and that they are to be eagerly desired, faithfully developed and lovingly exercised according to biblical guidelines.
We believe in the Lordship of Jesus Christ over the universal church, in which all who put their faith in Jesus Christ are united as members of one body, of which Christ is the head. The church exists to carry on the ministry of Jesus Christ and bring glory to the Father.
We believe that God has called the Church to preach the gospel to all nations, and to especially remember the poor and to minister to their needs through sacrificial giving and practical service. We also believe in the priesthood of all believers and the importance of every Christian being joined with and actively involved in a local community of the saints.
We believe that water baptism for believers and the Lord’s supper are the two ordinances of the Church to be observed until the time of Christ’s return. They are not a means of salvation but are sacramental channels of God’s grace and blessing.
We believe in the ever increasing government of God on earth, and the personal and glorious return of The Lord Jesus Christ to the earth. There will be a bodily resurrection and judgement of all humankind, those who have been saved to glorification and eternal life, living forever in blissful fellowship with their great Triune God. Those who do not believe will be punished with eternal separation from the presence of God.
